Mock Orange - (Philadelphus lewisii)
Mock Orange is a deciduous bush with intoxicatingly fragrant flowers that bloom in the late spring, early summer and are very attractive to bees. The plant has arching branches, and snow-white flowers that resemble those of an orange blossom with a similar citrus smell and a touch of pale yellow in the center, but as the name suggests are not a true orange.
Mock Orange leaves are ovate, and a soft green in summer months turning yellow in the fall. Both the flowers and leaves make great cuttings to be enjoyed indoors as well. Soap blooms can be made from the crushing of leaves and flowers. Saponins in the flowers, when mixed with water, will create frothy suds that will cleanse skin without stripping away necessary oils and cause drying.

*Prefers moist, well-drained soils. Somewhat drought tolerant once established.
